PG Key Overview
PG Key was created by a design and development team that includes industry
experts with years of experience in creating powerful yet easy to use software
applications. In addition to the experienced technical members, the team also
includes representatives from law enforcement (an FBI agent that specializes in
cyber crimes), education (a Ph.D. that currently serves as a district
superintendent), the medical community (an M.D. and current member of the American
Board of Pediatrics) and many others … including ordinary, non-technical, but
concerned parents.
The Real PG Key Background Story, Product Design
and
Philosophy
Brothers Mark and Brian have been owner operators of IT based businesses for about
20 years - an IT support company and a software development firm. From the very moment the early internet services started to become widely
used in homes (AOL and others in the early 90’s) Brian was being approached by
frustrated parents struggling with the challenges brought on by this new
technology.
Therefore, by being immersed in the IT industry, Mark and Brian were in a position to recognize the need for a
comprehensive, but exceedingly easy to use solutions for parents (or anyone) worried about the many dangers kids face online and
frustrated by the challenges of
parenting when it comes to the family computer. Not
to mention that as dads of kids between 6 and 11, they were especially aware of
the new risks created by technology for children and modern-day parenting.
In addition, school budget cuts (meaning less paperwork and more online homework
for kids) were forcing families everywhere to make tough work-related choices that could
potentially leave their kids less supervised, causing these worries and
frustrations to multiply.
Thus, with outside pressures building and other online monitoring solutions
not meeting the needs of sensible parents alike, they began the development of PG Key
using their IT expertise. In combination with law enforcement, parenting
experts, parents, and even kids, PG Key was tried, tested and finally released
years later. In fact, a former
NHL professional hockey player and dad, Paul Ranheim, also
realized the importance of such a product and quickly became involved in
its development early on, along with countless other experts on kid
internet safety.
Their conclusions are what you would expect:
Strong and effective parenting is the most critical part of any strategy to deal
with these challenges. They have
designed PG Key to be the all in one technical product for this purpose.
Simply plugging PG Key into a child’s or teen’s computer allows parents to
follow the advice so often given by law enforcement and parenting experts: 1) Control when and how long the
computer is used, 2) Properly setup your system with filters and web site
blocking, 3) Create the “over their shoulder” environment that encourages kids
to act the same way “on line” as they do in every other part of their life.
Simply put - PG Key does NOT replace parenting with technology - It ENABLES
parenting with technology.
PG Key is so easy to install, that any Parent or Grandparent, – no matter how
“technically challenged” can plug it in, and within a few seconds have
everything they need to apply their parenting skills and strategies, to their
kid’s “online” world.
